The amount of self-esteem

Entrepreneurs with self-esteem know themselves and how they might achieve their objectives.

What is self-esteem in entrepreneurship? Self-esteem is a term used to reflect a person's evaluation of his or her own worth. In entrepreneurship, an abundance of challenges may test self-esteem and may also develop it. Self-esteem exists as a consequence of each person’s judgment of their ability to face life's challenges, to understand and solve problems, and be given respect.

Why is self-esteem important for entrepreneurship? Self-esteem is important because it is a predictor of relevant outcomes, such as academic achievements or behaviour in certain situations. Self-esteem is important because it is closely related to psychological well-being. For example, people with high self-esteem feel they have a right to achieve happiness.

How do designer-founders enhance their self-esteem? Founders increase their self-esteem by learning to disregard popular opinion, by pushing the boundaries and by cultivating curiosity and fascination. To achieve your potential, you need to develop a sense of what you can naturally focus on in areas true to your innate interests, nature, and strengths. This stops you wasting time on an area where you have no talent.

“Self-esteem is made up primarily of two things: feeling lovable and feeling capable.” – Jack Canfield,

When is self-esteem most important? Self-esteem is important when you need skills and knowledge that you don’t possess yet and when founders need to work hard and be tenacious enough to see something through to the end. Self-esteem is important to entrepreneurs because they are held accountable for their actions, decisions and outcomes.

Who has self-esteem? People with high self-esteem believe in certain values and are ready to defend them. They feel secure enough to modify them in light of experience, and trust in their own capacity to solve problems. People with low self-esteem exercise self-criticism and feel dissatisfaction. They are sensitive to criticism and employ chronic indecision and fear making mistakes.

Where does self-esteem come from? Self-esteem does not result from having everything come easily and effortlessly.  Individuals need constant positive feedback from others to maintain their feelings of self-worth. Just like optimists, an entrepreneur with high self-esteem knows that there is no possibility of failing because his personality will guide him to overcome the hurdles.

I have to work hard to keep my self-esteem up. Being an entrepreneur makes me deal with things that don’t necessarily prove how capable I am. The fact that I am getting it done makes me feel better.

What makes your self-esteem swell?
