The needs of an entrepreneur
“We will achieve greatness only through an enormous amount of hard work over many years.” – Geoff Colvin, journalistWhen should entrepreneurs focus on talent? Talented entrepreneurs seem to do things they have no experience in doing with the utmost ease. Setting up a new venture is not always about having skills, but rather about having the guts to try something and then improvising. After trying something, smart entrepreneurs can verify where their talents lie. Who has talent? It is a common belief that talent is something you are born with, which is then enhanced by your surroundings. Talent is motivation, fuelled by innate skills, and a willingness to pursue those skills and the opportunities given. Where are the people with talent? When designing a business, the ability to identify your own talents makes you talented. Talented people act as catalysts: starting with their own talents and then building a team to do the rest. Some of my talents are quite obvious, even to me. Others I have had help to find, and it has been a pleasure to get to know them.
